initial HSR training
This 30-day self-paced solo e-learning course is designed for new Health and Safety Representatives.
It's the Stage 1 initial training required under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and includes assessment for Unit Standard 29315.
You get access to the whole course on the 1st day of the month and we finish on the 30th. You'll have access to me for support through Zoom and email if you need it.
It's all delivered through an online learning platform. No downloads required: just access it through your browser. (If you need offline access, we can arrange that as well).

What you'll learn:
-
You'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to carry out your worker representative functions on workplace health and safety matters. You'll also be able to describe good health and safety practice in NZ workplaces and explain people's duties and obligations.
-
HSRs who achieve Unit Standard 29315 will have the power to direct the cessation of unsafe work and issue a Provisional Improvement Notice.
-
This course include assessment for Unit Standard 29315. If you already have it, you don't have to repeat this course, even if you've changed employers. Take the H&S for Workplace Leaders course instead as a refresher.
What you'll need:
-
A computer or tablet, and high motivation to succeed. Learning solo works best when you have support from friends, workmates, family and your manager. I'll check in to keep you on track :)
-
Please discuss scheduling/workload management with your manager so you have time to do the course during your month.
-
Everything else you need for the course is shared with you through iQualify (accessible through most browsers). Most of your learning materials are in a text-based format.
-
You can let me know if you have specific learning needs (e.g., dyslexia) or accessibility needs. I'd love to make this work for you.
Time requirements:
HSRs are entitled to 2 days' worth of paid time to do their initial HSR training. I can help you get support from your employer if required.
- The course requires around 20 hours of study time, which is the notional amount set by NZQA for this unit standard (29315). Some people are faster, while others take more time.
-
Most people schedule time on their working days to work through the course. Find a quiet space with good internet access where you won't be interrupted.
-
We recommend completing most of the course in the first two weeks. You should submit the final correct answer before the 25th day of the month.
I run group workshops on demand. Send me a message if you're keen.
