book individual guidance
You set the agenda.
We can talk through whatever's going on for you, or set a specific topic. I'm flexible and ready to help you explore what you're most interested in. I offer these fully confidential and supportive sessions to help you be more competent, confident and capable.
Be Yourself.
Let's do what works for you. It's fine to turn your camera off or move around while we talk. I run my sessions on Zoom but we can meet by phone if you prefer. It's ok to cancel or finish a session early.

guidance: one-off/short-term sessions
If you're not already looking for professional supervision, let's start with this option.

Sometimes you just need someone to work through some tricky issues with you. Maybe it's something your manager or peers don't have enough knowledge about, or something you'd prefer to keep confidential.
Here's the kinds of issues I could help with:
-
defining what healthy and safe work means for you
-
returning to work after a long absence
-
building a personal education or development plan
-
migrant support: Kiwi attitudes/rules and NZ employment rules/contracts
-
finding your way as a new worker representative
-
influencing others when you don't have formal authority
- PINs/cessation of work (e.g., for trained health and safety representatives)
-
applying H&S risk assessment and management tools to your situation
- activating flexible work supports and requesting reasonable accommodation
-
developing an effective worker engagement plan
-
mapping H&S issues onto collective bargaining/industrial relations processes

I stick to my scope of expertise: I'm not a counsellor, lawyer or health & safety consultant. While I've yet to find a topic that's too weird or nerdy for me to discuss, I'm happy to help you find expertise or someone more suitable. Your first session with me is always free.

If we've had a few sessions, I'll usually invite you to consider an ongoing mentoring/supervision arrangement.
ongoing mentoring/supervision sessions
Scheduling regular supervision/mentoring sessions helps clarify priorities and ensures you're deliberately making time for yourself. If we enter into an ongoing arrangement, we'll draw up a friendly contract to keep us focussed.
Good workplaces have external supervision or mentoring as part of their staff development, accountability and wellbeing frameworks, alongside managerial and internal practice support. Using an external supervisor*/mentor like me allows you to be completely candid as you explore your practice, ethics and needs.
Most people who use me, choose me for practice discussions we can have in my areas of expertise, like

-
work-related literacy or ESL coaching
-
adult education and group facilitation
-
industrial relations and union advocacy
-
unfair discrimination (I have lived experience of disability)
-
employment-related stressors
-
workplace health and safety culture and processes
Note: I can't meet the clinical/practice supervision requirements of registration bodies like nursing, social work or counselling. Please check in with your own professional body to find a more suitable supervisor.

As well as practice-based conversations, we'll probably also
- affirm your identity and mentally healthy work needs
- set and reviewing healthful work boundaries
- help you deal with workplace politics: e.g., conflict or isolation
- explore and activate your development goals

No profit, low-waged organisation?
I always save space to support organisations who otherwise could not afford to support staff with my services. We're talking situations where your most senior team member earns less than my lowest hourly rate, and you don't make a profit. If you'd like to arrange this for one of your staff, please send me an email.
Once I've agreed to support your organisation, your team member can book here:
